i really like this ad about speaking to young children before they conform to the beauty standards of the media industry. its not so much of speaking to your daughter before the beauty industry does, but before the media influences them. i do work in the beauty industry and honestly, what you see in the glossies isnt all that bad.
take for example, a write-up on a skin brightening sunblock. skin pigmentation/freckles is due to excessive melanin production which may lead to skin cancer, thus, a sunblock in this case to prevent skin darkening is helpful.
on the other hand, you see an ad on coloured contact lens, and by now, its scientifically proven that coloured contacts are not good for the eyes cus it's not really oxygen-permeable and as a result, eye infections and complications occur.
one is for cosmetic use and the other actually does serve a health reason. so you cant say the beauty industry is all bad actually. at the end of the day, its the user who makes the choice, and its up to the media and friends who influence her decisions.
