i was sitting quietly at home watching project runway when the extremely strong gale hit us just now. before the sudden monsoon came, about 3minutes before, keebie was barking like mad as though he was scared of something. then came the commotion outside as doors were slammed shut, furniture and whatnots fell due to the winds. it was quite sudden and freaky, i quickly texted b to check if he was safe and sound indoors. the winds came and went, fading as suddenly as it arrived. i really thank God for Singapore being void of natural disasters.

i have this very annoying ulcer on my bottom lip which seems to be growing every second in size and pain intensity. so i decided to put some salt on it (i know, im quite sick like that) only to realise that we ran out of salt. as you can probably tell, in my household, cooking is deemed foreign. more importantly, how am i going to sleep tonight with this ulcer threatening to swallow the whole of my lower lip?! annoyed.

yesterday, i managed to try the dim sum at the highly raved about victor's kitchen at 91 Bencoolen Street #01-21 Sunshine Plaza. headed over there with the boy at slightly past 1pm on a friday and the place was fully packed. thank God us hungry gluttons got a seat pretty quick though. the prices were pretty reasonable at about $3-4 per dish.

Victor's King Prawn Dumplings

I have always liked har gaos and this is pretty good with a nice succulent prawn just like how har gaos should have.

Tasty Queen Size Siew Mai

how can we not have the queen if we get the king right? i have no idea why people always speak of siew mais and har gaos in on sentence when dim sum is mentioned, but this siew mai is just as good as the har gao! (in one sentence too)

Crispy Golden Shrimp Rolls

b likes to order this beancurd skin thing every time we have dim sum and i must say, this is really damn nice! the skin is crispy and light while the prawns were juicy inside. best of the lot we had. the vinegarish sauce complemented it well too. would be heaven if they ditched the coriander.

Chicken & Sausage in Glutinous rice

i ordered this because i saw lots of people having it and well, now i know why they did. the rice is chewy enough and moist on the inside with tender chicken bits. the salted egg yolk goes really well and gives it more oomph. mm, i dont like lap cheong and b had it so i cant comment on that.

Milky Custard Bun

now im not a fan of buns/breads, but i heard that the custard buns at victor's were good o we decided to give it a try. i like how the sweetness of the smooth custard mixes with the saltiness of the salted egg yolk. the bun itself was nice and soft without being dry.

phoenix porridge

its actually chicken and century egg porridge with a amped-up name. (they have really cute names like wala wala porridge and nemo porridge. no points for guessing what the latter is) the porridge was pretty smooth, although it could have been slightly less watery. tasty nontheless.

we also had a char siew cheong fun but i couldnt find a picture for that.

i'd usually go for prawn cheong fun but this time round since we had so much dishes with prawns in them, i decided to try the char siew instead. loved the silky texture of the cheong fun but i think the char siew serving was rather measly and the sauce could be a wee bit less salty.

i noticed that the crowd started to dwindle about 2plus, so if you want to avoid the queue, its best to go after lunch hours.

was comparing the dishes individually to this popular dim sum place that opens till late at geylang (cant remember the name) and the verdict given by the boy is... victor's kitchen takes the cake! well, then again, if youre having a late night dim sum craving, you can always count on the one at geylang, plus they have nice homemade barley (and that place brings back good memories for me. heh.)

these are way overdue pictures (courtesy of brandon's blackberry) from a print ad and commercial i did last month with brandon. but since the campaign isnt out yet, its technically not overdue right? okay, i know the both of us look terribly off. im supposed to be an ah lian-ish bimbo hence the gaudy makeup and flat ironed hair (if you think this is bad, you havent seen the full outfit and accessories i had to don). brandon on the other hand had to play the full fledged geek, i swear he has like half a tub of gel in his hair. anyway, it was good fun, laughing at how ridiculous each other looked, but wayyy tiring. everything you see on screen/print is 99% of the time not as easy as it looks.

mm, so my brother's been keeping jason mraz's "lucky" on loop for two weeks now and im pretty damn sure this is the 753rd time ive heard it. my mom caught me humming it today while we were out. this song, its getting into my bones. like toxic fumes, killing me, slowly.

you know, lately ive been thinking of writing a little book, a long story. but i never got around crafting the start, and im terrible at writing endings. because, no one really knows when's a start of anything till it ends, or if something ever really started or ended. and neither does anyone want to just read about things in the middle because they go nowhere; just aimless; so pointless.

people, they like to know how things turn out in the end. but if they did already, then how else would kerouac's sal paradise and dean moriarty to have all the kick-ass fun they had on the road? it's the middle part that's really mindblowing. mindblowingly pointless.

if i were to write my little long tale, it'll just be mindblowingly pointless good parts all the way. with no sensible start and ending, because every end is the beginning of something, new.

i havent been doing anything radical or stuff worthy to shout about, as of late. hence i reckon i shouldnt be causing much ado about nothing. but but but! i need to tell you about my dog, keeble. (yes, my dog is more happening than me.)

as told by my mom, " it was the wee hours of morning, 4am, 5am perhaps. i woke up to use the toilet, and on the way through the living room, i sensed that something was amiss. the floor felt sickeningly sticky and the air was damp and strangely sweet."
now, before you scramble to grab your comfort pillow and anticipate for a good ol' horror/thriller story, keep your asses still.
"i looked around in the shadows and saw little clumps of unknown substances littered around the living room floor. picking up a clump nearest to me, i proceeded to examine what this warm gooey clump was. and suddenly! a flash of a white object skittered past me into the kitchen."
"did you follow?" interrupted.
"still holding the lumpy object, i went into the kitchen in search of keebie. in the dark i made out his shape, hiding under the table, he seemed to be chewing on something. worried; i quickly looked for the light switch to make out all this strange happenings and to prevent keebie from eating something poisonous, whatever it was."
now, what do you think keebie was chewing on at such an ungodly hour?
"it took awhile for me to adjust to the sudden brightness which seemed to have stunned the dog who momentarily stopped chewing on this unidentified husky, fibrous-ish looking object. i was reminded that i still have the sticky clump in my hands and i didnt know to laugh or to get mad after looking at it. it was a piece of mango skin."

there you have it, the greedy dog strikes again and somehow manages to steal a mango from the table after countless jumping attempts. he had cleverly spit out the bitter skin and savoured the sweet flesh of the fruit, whole. my mom had to go on a mango skin hunt and mop the whole house at 5am in the morning, thanks to the dog, sitting at a corner with a mango in his tummy.

"what is a pre-makeup base/primer?"

a lot of girls have the misconception that if they apply a moisturiser before their make up, that is a makeup base itself. a moisturiser only hydrates your skin, while a primer prepares your skin for makeup.

"do i really need it?"

during the day, it is likely that your foundation will shift. due to excess sebum secretion or your moisturiser. It might collect in certain areas, ie, around your nose, or it might disappear from around your mouth or eyes. as said, a pre-makeup base provides a protective veil on your face giving it the same consistency and allow your makeup go on more smoothly, and more importantly, stay in place while giving you a flawless finish.

ive used ettusais' pre-makeup base, medicated acne whitening UV extra (oil block), for a while and i love it!

yup, although the one in oil block is runny (as seen), you'll be surprised to find out that it dries to a soft satiny finish and brightens up my face!


available in two formulations:

"how do i apply it?"

1) after your moisturizer, shake well and apply about 4-5 drops/pea sized amount to clean hands.
2) Softly massage into the skin including the eye area, bearing extra concentration to the T-Zone areas as well as areas with/prone to fine lines.
3) Hang around for about a minute for it to dry and there, go ahead and use your fundamentals.

im not too sure about it lightening my dark spots as i'd probably need more time to judge that, but it sure made my skin brighter and more luminous! i even use it on days when im going out without foundation on, because not only does it shield my skin from the harmful UV rays, it protects it against daily external aggressors while keeping my face fresh!

its oil-free and lightweight texture is really the cherry on top. overall, a great product i'd recommend. (:
