most of you might know very well that oily skin and pimples come together in one package, like a (horrible) buy one get one free sort of deal. but do you know that dehydrated skin leads to pimples too?

oily/combinition skin

over-active oil glands leading to excess sebum clogging up the pores are one of the common woes of those living in a tropical climate like Singapore. as said, prevention is better than cure. the best way to pervent breakouts is to use skin care products suited for oily/combinition skin. oil-free and non-comedogenic products that are water-based or in gel forms are recommended.

if you have oily skin, it does not mean your skin moisturiser altogether! oil levels & hydration are 2 seperate things. to prevent for face shining like a wok come mid-noon, apply a light oil-controlling moisturiser after cleansing. be sure not to wash your face more than 3 times a day as washing too often strips your face of moisture, causing your face to produce more oil to moisturise itself! so do not shy away from moisturising thinking it'll make your skin oiler! so load up on the h2o content and keep your skin hydrated!

dry/dehydrated skin

dry/dehydrated skin, unlike oily skin, is not only prone to lines but also develops pimples because dead skin cells clog up the pores. stopping sebum that's produced from getting to the surface. dehydration can be caused by, environmental pollution, sleeping in an air-conditioned room, lack of water etc.

proper cleansing with once/twice a week gentle exfoliation and feeding your skin with lots and lots of moisture is the key to clear skin. you should use lightweight moisturisers that will hydrate the skin yet leaving it smooth and matt.
